We lost a leader

12651373_10205918396665157_5422944625640770405_nMarShawn McCarrell ended his life on the steps of the Ohio Statehouse late on Monday. A poet in life and a poet in death. MarShawn was an organizer with the Ohio Student Association, and he founded his own direct service organization, Pursuing Our Dreams. He was a friend, a visionary, a strategist, and a leader. In all roles, he situated himself among the people with whom he could act and elicit change – not apart from or above, but within and in relation to. At a vigil in Columbus last night, we saw that MarShawn’s work to cultivate relationships, build power, and move people continues even after his death. We miss you, MarShawn.
